Day 3 - Colorado

Today was basically a recovery day from climbing Mt. Elbert yesterday. We went to the rec. center and relaxed: played some basketball, climbed on the rock wall, went down the water slide (which was surprisingly awesome!) and chilled in the outdoor hot tub and steam room. We wanted to go skiing but the rates are just too far out of our budget. I think we woulda been too tired for it to be worth it anyway. So yeah. Today wasn't to exciting. Tomorrow (or today, because i'm actually writing this a day late) we are heading to Arches NP Utah. Gonna be camping there for a night or two and then heading off to Capitol Reef. From this point forward we will be roughing it out in a tent and internet access will be difficult. So updates to the blog and facebook will be much more infrequent. But stay tuned! Awesomeness is still yet to come!!!

Day 2 - CO

We wanted to hike a mountain in CO while we were here so Nathaniel (my friend back from NY who is living here temporarily) thought it'd be a great idea to hike up the tallest mountain in CO. This so happens to be the second tallest mountain in the continental USA. We woke up at 5am and drove and hour or so out the the base of the mountain. After spending well over an hour trying to find the trail, we finally got there and began our trek at 8am. We initially wanted to do it as a 2 day hike and spend the night half way up. But being January where the mountain ranges from 10 to -50 degree, we decided we'd try to do the whole climb in one day. This turned out to be the right decision. It took about 5 hours to climb and about 3 hours to descend. We actually made great time as many people advise doing this as a two day trip. We did it in 8. My legs have never felt so drained, though. Because of the high altitudes, my muscles didn't receive enough oxygen and became fatigued MUCH faster. I was taking breaks every 4 steps at times. Despite the fatigue, we all made it to the top, 14, 233ft mountain. I am the epitome of drained right now and it's only like 8 or 9 oclock. Time to go to sleep and see what tomorrow has in store for us!

Day 1 - Colorado

Arrived in CO today at 11am after a brutal 18 hour drive. Had the opportunity to hike around some of the rockies and see the sunset. It's so beautiful here. Definitely decided that I'm going to live here after school. Tomorrow we're looking to head up Elbert Mountain (the tallest in CO). Hopefully it'll be a one day hike, and a cold one at that. It'll be well worth it when we're done!

Tomorrow is the day

Tomorrow morning I'll be heading out out of Palmyra, NY and picking up Matt in Erie, PA. Weather is supposed to be erroneous so hopefully the snow won't hate us. We will be arriving in HU to meet with Chris around 3pm and then leaving an hour or two after that for Colorado with the hopes of arriving in Silverthrone by 4pm the next day.

2 days and counting

Tuesday morning I will be leaving to meet up with the guys in Indiana and to pick up the rest of our equipment and supplies. From there we will be headed straight for the heart of Colorado!

Just over a week...

Grand Canyon and Arches National Park have approved our requests for a Entrance Fee Waiver. So cool beans to that. Looking to get Joshua Tree approved here soon. I'm heading out to meet up with Matt and Chris in Michigan on the 3rd and we'll be departing that morning for HU to pick up equipment and then it's off to Silverthrone Colorado!
